A good day :)

So yesterday was full of surprises. Well, it was full of one surprise at least. The lovely Suzy from Eeep I'm A Blogger recommended my blog along with a bunch of other blogs! It made me feel super awesome, so a big thank you to Suzy (whose blog you should be reading, by the way).

In other news, I've temporarily stopped reading A Clockwork Orange and moved onto On The Road by Jack Kerouac because A Clockwork Orange is incredibly difficult to read, despite not being very long. As I'm very behind schedule with my book challenge, I don't want to spend too long on one book when there are others that I can get through much quicker.

And in even MORE news, remember that time when I failed my 30 day photo challenge? Well I've done another photo for it, because I am determined to finish even though my 30 days are well and truly over.

Movement:
Twirly dresses are the best.

Song of the Day: Blood by The Middle East. If you only do one thing today, listen to this song. It makes me feel a little bit sad but also incredibly hopeful at the same time. If you've seen the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love you'll probably recognise it from the end of that. I've been playing it on repeat.

Twirly dresses

Dresses that you can twirl in are the absolute best.

Dress: H&M
Sunglasses: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: Dorothy Perkins

These days I'm rarely seen without my trusty sunglasses, because let's face it, squinting is not a good look. Today it was quite windy which was refreshing as it has been quite muggy. However this dress has a mind of it's own when the wind picks up and I may have accidentally flashed my pants to innocent by-standers on my way to the post-box. Oops.

Circus Tent

Dress: New Look
Necklace: Matalan (I think)
Hat: New Look
Sunglasses: Dorothy Perkins
Flip-Flops: Primark

This dress reminds me of a circus tent, hence the title of this post! It's another piece I got from the New Look sale. I wasn't sure about it when I first bought it; I didn't know if I was a little bit too short for a mid-length dress, but now I'm so glad I picked it up, it's so good for summer. Plus it has stripes, and I can't resist stripes! I need some better shoes to go with it though, flip-flops just don't cut it, convenient as they are.

We're back to sunny weather again, hooray! (Sorry if I talk about the weather a lot, but I am British after all!).

I read a book

Today, in this glorious sunshine we have been blessed with here in the UK, I finished The Book Thief, and now I don't know what to do with all these feelings.

In short, I loved it. I only had one tiny niggle with it which I can't tell you about because it's also a massive spoiler. But yeah, on the whole, a fantastic book. I'm not really one for reviews, so just go and read it and judge for yourselves.

It's so nice to be able to sit outside again after all the rain we've had (which is an awful lot of rain). Today whilst I was reading, Daf mowed the lawn and then ate four (yes, four) ice lollies. And now he's complaining that his stomach hurts and I have absolutely no sympathy. I only had one, and I feel great.

Cliché

There's something so self-satisfying about sitting inside listening to sad songs when it's raining. I've just caught myself staring out the window at the falling rain, with melancholy tones playing in the background and I was completely unaware that I was doing it. I feel like I'm in one of those movie scenes where something sad has happened and all I do is sit there despondently. In other words, I feel like a cliché

Don't worry, nothing sad has happened, I am not despondent. I think I just lost myself in a moment. And now I'm back.

A Sunny Afternoon

Shirt: Peacocks
Top: New Look
Skirt: New Look
Shoes: Matalan

This skirt only cost me £6 in the New Look sale and it has become a firm favourite, much more exciting than my plain denim ones. Also, I'm wearing a shirt as a kind of jacket again. They're perfect for when it's too hot for a proper jacket but still a bit chilly to go bare-armed. Plus, it looks cool (well I think it does anyway).

New remote!

I am posting today's outfit largely because I am the proud new owner of a remote for my camera, which means I don't have to faff around with the self-timer. I'm wearing the hat and sunglasses because my hair is a mess and I'm wearing no make-up. And today I'm also introducing a new photo-taking area - in front of the fence.

It's an exciting day.

Hat: New Look
Sunglasses: Dorothy Perkins
Shirt: H&M
Top: Dorothy Perkins
Jeans: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: New Look

I love these jeans, but man do they crease easily. It probably doesn't help that I don't iron them anyway (maybe I should), but I find that the knees go baggy really easily on them, and it's irritating. Maybe I should stop sitting cross-legged so much, because honestly that can't do them much good.

We look set to have a sunny weekend for the first time in ages, which probably means work will be really busy, joy of all joys. Oh well, summer was bound to show up sometime I guess!

It's the little things

I had to nip into town today to pick up a couple of birthday cards (that I am going to try my very best to remember to post on time), and Daf wanted a quick look in Primark, so I obliged and went to see if I could wade through the mess and find something worth buying, which is a rarity in my case. However, on this occasion I not only found the kind of jacket I've been searching for at a fraction of the price it is everywhere else, but I found a gorgeous dress as well. In the queue to pay, a lady was standing behind me and she said, "That dress is lovely, isn't it?" and I had a really nice conversation with her before it was my turn to pay. It made my whole day, I love it when strangers strike up genuine conversations with you.

So yeah, it's the little things that get you through the day with a smile on your face.

A little bit of 70s

I feel like I'm from the 70s today, but that's probably purely because of the flared jeans. I love a good pair of flared jeans, and these are the best.

Cardigan: Matalan
Top: Dorothy Perkins
Jeans: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: Primark

So anyway, I've kind of been M.I.A for a week and for that I apologise (if you even noticed, haha). I've been busy and uninspired and not in the mood, but my boyfriend said I looked nice today and if that's not the mark of a good outfit then I don't know what is!

My hair's getting quite long now as I've been growing it for a while and I don't know whether to go the hairdressers and get it layered or not yet. That was always the plan but I'm not sure whether I need to wait until it's a bit longer before I do so. Anyone got any advice for growing out your hair?

Lately I've been...

Reading: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This was one of the books I was most looking forward to reading out of my 30 books, and so far I haven't been disappointed. It's been a bit slow-going so far (I'm not even halfway yet, oh dear), but when I started it I didn't get a chance to read it much because I wasn't at home, and since then I've only been able to read a chapter or two a night, but I'm going to crack on with it this week.

Watching: Channel 5 have picked up that American show Once Upon A Time and so I started watching that the other night. Initially I wasn't too sure because it just seemed a tad ridiculous, but I persevered and now I'm a little bit in love with it. There's just something so endearing about it, even if it is a bit cheesy/cringeworthy at times. And hey, Robert Carlyle makes a pretty creepy Rumpelstiltskin.

Other than Once Upon A Time, Daf and I are still slowly making our way through Prison Break and The Office (the American version). I love Jim and Pam, they've got to be one of the best written TV couples ever.

Oh, and also, I went to see The Avengers on Tuesday and it is fantastic. Well, it is if you like superheroes, aliens, explosions and stuff. And I do.

Listening to: Nothing obscure, a lot of Blur and The Kooks at the moment. Oooh, and also Two Door Cinema Club, I really love them.

Laughing at: The tumblr blog Sims Gone Wrong. It's basically full of screenshots of glitches in the game that cause some hilarious and also terrifying sims. Check it out for more, but here are some of my favourites.

demon cat
demon lady
demon baby
Frightening stuff.

Looking forward to: My birthday next month, because the Harry Potter studio tour tickets arrived in the post the other day which got me SUPER excited. I hope there is a gift shop so I can buy Harry Potter merchandise.
