Royal Weddings

So Kate and Wills got hitched in case you hadn't heard, isn't it lovely? I'm not a Royalist by any means, but I have to say I did get into the spirit of things - I wanted to see that dress, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Bless Kate Middleton, if I was her I would have been absolutely terrified at the prospect of marrying into the Royal family - I mean, talk about life under a microscope.

Anyway, congratulations to the happy couple.

My dissertation is due in a week today. I'll see you then.

Procrastinating? Me?

....Never.

Only joking, procrastinating is exactly what I'm doing. My mind is a swirl of dissertation (I hate hate hate it), but it is SO close to being out of my life. So that I don't have to think too much, this blog-post is going to be made up of some of my favourite movie quotes.

In no particular order:

Martin, it's all psychological. You yell barracuda, everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell shark, and we've got a panic on our hands on the fourth of July. - Jaws

That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, homeskillet. - Juno

I think we both said some things we didn't mean, like... when you broke up with me... on my b-day. - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

You don't know what it's like to be straight, OK? It's awful. - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

Sam: It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for. - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of Everybody Loves Raymond, only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever. - Knocked Up

There's loads more but that'll do for now, my brain has ceased to function.

Emilee

When I left Saudi to come back to England with my family in 1999, I said goodbye to a very dear friend of mine, Emilee. When we first moved to Saudi, Emilee's family were our next door neighbours. I was two, and she was one, and we saw each other nearly every day for the next eight years. We both left at the same time, as her family was moving to China, and when the time came for us to say goodbye, I genuinely believed that I would never see her again.

Extraordinarily, I did see her again, several years later when me and my parents were back in Saudi again. Her parents had an interview in Bahrain, and a bunch of families who knew them 'way back when' had a meal out, and so I saw her then, albeit briefly, and it wasn't exactly an ideal setting to have a proper catch-up. Nevertheless, it was still lovely to see her, because again, I thought I wouldn't be seeing her again.

On Saturday afternoon, me and Emilee sat together in my garden in Wolverhampton, reminiscing about our childhood and Saudi, and just generally having a much needed catch-up. Emilee's parents live back in Saudi now (it's funny how a lot of people who move away from Saudi end up coming back, if not to Saudi then somewhere else in the Middle-East) and Emilee goes to college back in America. She's been studying in London since January, and has been interning there as well, but she goes home soon, and so she got the train down to see me on Saturday for a few hours.

It was so lovely to see her after all these years. As a child, I was just as likely to eat at her house for dinner as I was at mine. A patio was all that separated our houses, and along with the other kids that lived on our compound, we would play together every day after school.

I grew up with Emilee, and I'm so glad she took time out of her trip to come and see me.

Me and Emilee with Emilee's Dad when we were little. I don't have a scanner so I had to take a picture of a picture.

My Dad had a series of photos of me and Emilee and added 'witty' speech bubbles to them. I couldn't get a clear picture of the whole thing so I've just got this one instead.

Emilee took a photo while she was here which she's put on her blog. I hope it's not too long before we meet up again!

I've decided not to do my loving/hatin' section anymore, because it's sometimes a chore to think of them, and most of the time it will be pretty obvious from my blog post what I love or hate anyway! I will however still be doing a song of the day. I like enforcing my musical tastes on people. I'm obnoxious like that.

Song of the Day: Lost In Stereo by All Time Low
She's dancing alone/I'm ready to go/But she's so lost in stereo, lost in stereo

I'll just say this...

Pretty much the only good thing about being home on my own is that I can sing along to the radio when I'm doing the washing up without my Dad saying, "Are you alright? You sound like you're in pain."

Good afternoon, world.

A few days ago I had a massive clear-out of my belongings, put a bunch of old clothes in a charity bag to make space for the clothes I like, got rid of lots of old letters and things, and generally tried to make my tiny bedroom resemble something...tidy. Whilst going through the plethora of crap in the drawers under my bed, I found a few folders and workbooks from when I was at school. A few of them were projects from when I was in years 5 and 6, but the majority of it was drawings and writing excersises from year 2 and below. I went through it all, just to reminisce and you know, for laughs. I am going to share with you a story I wrote. I can't have been more than six when I wrote this, in fact I think I was probably younger.

Once upon a time There
lived a ugly big giant
and he stampd his feet alot
he lived in a cave sometimes he
went to sleep
the giants name was Tom
but one day he was cross.

I was clearly born to be a writer.

I copied it down exactly as it was written, and as you can see, there's not a whole lot of plot to it. There was an illustration to go with it, but it's just awful, all of the proportions were wrong. I'm ashamed of my childhood self.

In other news, here's some cool things I found on t'internet!

Found this on Google Images and thought it was awesome, I think it might be from that Epic Mickey game or something.

I love Lost and the fact that someone has a tattoo of John Locke's face along with the words he uses so often is absolutely hilarious. "DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T DO!" I also found this on Google Images, and it's on a bunch of people's Tumblrs as well.

This is some awesomely creepy Peter Pan concept art which I again found on Google Images but I think this is the original source with the illustrator: http://saryth.deviantart.com/art/Peter-pan-132693284

Finally, here's a scary fish. Found on Google Images obviously.

I'd better go and do something productive now.

This is what I have been doing

My Dad has complained about the lack of a new blog post, and I'm sure my LEGION of avid readers will agree so, without further ado...

I'm now back at home for the Easter holidays, and have lugged the majority of my possessions back with me to save me a mammoth job when I finish at the end of May. I had a minor panic attack when I was packing and couldn't find my dissertation research anywhere. After watching me frantically search my desk and shelves, muttering profanities as I went, Daf finally said; "Isn't it on that chair?"

It was on that chair, obscured by a mound of clothes, because you know, why wouldn't I keep it there?

Anyway, I am successfully home with everything I need. Yesterday we went to Merry Hill (which is a big shopping centre), mainly because I wanted to go to H&M. It was a really nice warm day, and on the drive there we saw this young gentleman walking along the pavement, cigarette in his mouth, topless, and wearing a woolly hat. Brilliant.

I have bought myself a trilby hat, because I've wanted one for ages and I think that now I have shorter hair I can pull it off. I think it makes me look super awesome. Daf respectfully disagrees.

When we got back, I supervised while Daf mowed the lawn, then I pranced around taking pictures, some of which I will put on here, as soon as I find my camera cable.

It's another sunny day so I should probably get out of my pyjamas and go outside.

Today I'm loving: The sun of course!

Today I'm hatin': I keep sneezing, and not like once or twice, but about seven times in a row, several times a day. Could this be hayfever? I've never had it before, but can you develop it pretty much whenever? These are genuine questions by the way, let me know if you are a hayfever connoisseur (if that's even a legitimate thing).

Song of the Day: Last Words by The Real Tuesday Weld, continuing on my Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist theme.
You said you loved me/And I kind of believe that/But these days who knows what it means?

Even more 10 things...I mean 7

It's that time again where I do a '10 things' list. This one is going to be 10 things that make me teary eyed. This list will probably all be scenes from movies or TV shows, maybe a couple of songs.

1. J.D's final scene in series 8 of Scrubs (even though he was in a whole bunch of episodes in the new series they did but have since cancelled). I just think it's so beautifully done, the music is perfect, it's funny and touching and I really really love it.

2. Elaine Paige's version of Memory from the musical Cats. It's such a beautiful song, and she sings it so well, even if she is really annoying on that radio show she does.

3. The scene from A Walk To Remember when Landon goes to see his dad to thank him and he cries and they hug and aaaahhhhh it's just so heart-breaking. Gets me everytime, there's just something about seeing a man cry anyway.

4. When Satine dies in Moulin Rouge, because it involves more man tears, from Ewan McGregor this time.

5. My Sister's Keeper - the book, not the film (which I'm yet to see but I don't want to because apparently they changed the ending completely). So, so sad. There's nothing remotely happy about this book, so maybe don't read it.

6. Another book, The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Specifically the ending. Another very sad book, and generally depressing, but read it, it's good.

7. There's a movie from the early 90s or something called Dragonheart with Dennis Quaid in it, and he befriends this talking dragon (voiced by Sean Connery). Anyway, I don't remember much of the storyline but at the end, the dragon dies. I remember watching it when I was younger and I was so upset by this that I went up to my room and cried on my own for about half an hour. I haven't seen this film in a long time, but I'd probably still be upset that the dragon dies.

OK, I literally can't think of anymore. But that's alright, because I clearly said 7 things, right? Right.

Today I'm loving: A multitude of things. First, that tomorrow I have my last ever seminar at university. Second, that on Wednesday I begin my Easter holidays because I'm going home (albeit I'll be spending it writing my dissertation, but still). And third, that Daf will shortly be bringing me a McFlurry. Awesome.

Today I'm hatin': Ummmm....I have a slight headache.

Song of the Day: After Hours by We Are Scientists, because I watched Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist last night and then downloaded the soundtrack because it's so good.
